Modern Beauty Shop '66 (PART TWO)

As promised, here is part two of the fabulous ads from the same August 1966 issue of Modern Beauty Shop, as seen in our Part One post HERE. So much styling' variety in design and photography-- plus lots of cute illustrations too! If for some reason you find wig heads "scary", then you seriously might want to skip this post altogether!

We'll be taking a more in-depth look at some of the biggest and bestest hair in our next post too-- we highly recommend that you book your appointment now!

At the shoot for the first picture:

"Look Sexy!"
"How about this?"
"I've got a lunch appointment, it'll have to do!"

"Do I dare wear it to the PTA meeting? Do I dare SMOKING while wearing it?
YES, for it's made of the finest, softest European hair!"

Life is hard, right? That's the way it is. But those were the 60's, so no Russian girls involved. I wonder how many Italian girls dreamt about reaching the U.S... Their hair, at least, saw the promised land.

I really dig the brush style on the disposable streaking caps ad. That hairstyle is totally contemporary, but the art style reminds me of the then sixty-year-young timelessness of Charles Dana Gibson's fin-de-siècle glamor illustrations. And I'm not complaining.

Practice and Display Manikin-

it wouldn't be out of place in a horror flick (sorry, I just had to say that.)

All these pics are neat, they show not only how fashion has changed but the advertising has changed over the decades too.

Are wigs as popular now as they were back then?
