The Adventures of the Girl Phantom

When The Phantom falls ill and requires a little R&R to recover, his sister Julie fills in with much sexier, though somewhat varied results. From the January 1967 issue of King Features' The Phantom #20-- here we get an improvement installment of our boy in Bengali (I'll always prefer the female version over the dude version!) And gents, if there's one thing to learn from this thrilling tale of skin tight jungle adventure-- it's listen to the ladies when they're talking to you! TWEEEE!

I'm still a little bit unclear about which one was the Real Phantom? The story was only very explicit about whether that new girl was actually him or not in almost every panel. So I guess I'm left to puzzle....

(Speaking of that, even the damn puzzle mentions the word "unreal" for land sakes. Holy cow!)

I had the original Phantom #20. This looks like it might be from the 1973 King Comics Reading Library reprints. According to the GCD, they were re-written and simplified for younger children, and/or for kids who had problems with reading. Similar to Spidey Super Stories. They also added captions or footnotes to explain the "big" words ("ancient=very old").

Julie/Girl Phantom also appeared in Charlton's Phantom #30 in 1969, although they changed her from brunette to blond.
